James Bond 007, Vol. 2 by Greg Pak

Image
⭐⭐⭐ ⭐  Stars Blurb A friendship is finished. The world is in peril. And Goldfinger wants diamonds? You think you know Goldfinger. But you don't know THIS Goldfinger. Go inside the mind of the most ruthless sociopath in the world, courtesy of GREG PAK (World War Hulk, Weapon X) and ERIC GAPSTUR (Batman Beyond, The Flash: Year Zero). James Bond 007, Vol. 1 by Greg Pak  A very entertaining graphic novel. These graphic novels are like a breath of fresh air when it comes to canon readers. The stories are blunt and slip several decades back to give the feel of the original Fleming novels.  The experience is very different for the Bond we have come to love from the recent movie adaptations. There are current situations in the stories and we see Lee again getting a lot of page time in the story. Even Aria gets a lot of presence in the story.  The story features the quintessential Bond villain Goldfinger as the sociopathic villain continuing from the previous volume. Here he ...

James Bond 007, Vol. 1 by Greg Pak

Image
⭐⭐⭐ ⭐  Stars Blurb The ODD JOB epic begins in a new ongoing James Bond comic series by superstars GREG PAK (Planet Hulk, Mech Cadet Yu), MARC LAMING (Star Wars, Wonder Woman) and STEPHEN MOONEY (Half Past Danger)! Agent 007 tracks a smuggler into Singapore to secure a dangerous case, contents unknown. But a Korean mystery man wants the case as well, for very different reasons. And if Bond and this new rival don't kill each other, the ruthless terrorist organization known as ORU will be more than happy to finish the job. James Bond 007, Vol. 1 by Greg Pak  More 3.5 than 4 but an entertaining graphic novel. This is a great Bond novel and very much like the Bond of old, cynical, sexy and borderline insane. The introduction of diversity acceptable cast comes in the form of M and Moneypenny both people of color. This story takes a new road with an Oddjob wannabe entering the action as a sleek action driven character who upstages Bond with his finesse. This glimpse takes the ...

Image
This is an adult rendering of the fables in comic(s) and is not for children. From the Back Cover Fashionista, socialite,…spy? Hey, if the shoe fits... She poses as a haughty socialite in glass stilettos by day--and okay, sometimes by night. But Cinderella is actually Fabletown's master spy. Back in the Big '80s, Cindy encountered her dark mirror, a rogue American Fable, who was in league with the mysterious Shadow Fabletown. Cindy thought she'd destroyed her rival years ago. But when a powerful magician turns up dead and another seeks her help, Cindy's hunt for her old enemy begins anew. From the frigid back alleys of Russia to the steaming desert, Cindy will follow the clues down the bloo...

James Bond Casino Royale by Ven Jensen

Image
From the Back Cover Ian Fleming's literary debut of British Secret Service agent 007 is stylishly adapted to the sequential art medium by Van Jensen and Matt Southworth in the official James Bond: Casino Royale graphic novel. Sent to a French casino in Royale-les-Eaux, Bond aims to eliminate the threat of the deadly Le Chiffre by bankrupting the ruthless SMERSH operative at the baccarat table. However, when the luck of the draw favors his enemy, 007 becomes the target of assassins and torturers in a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse. James Bond Casino Royale by Ven Jensen Bond's oldest secret, his one love lost in a graphic novel which stays true to Fleming's story.  Much of the art is dark and sombre like the story which plays like a funeral.  Discussing about a graphic novel on Casino Royale takes one back to the origins of Bond. The world got its first taste of Bond in Ian Fleming's Casino Royale in 1953, when this was the first Bond novel to be released, giving read...

Preacher Book One by Garth Ennis

Image
Warning The book is a blasphemous mess and please proceed with caution, have tried to avoid profanity but the storyline guarantees mental mayhem and I cannot have succeeded in stopping all the bullets of profanity that the book generated.  From the Back Cover Available for the first time in hardcover, preacher Jesse Custer begins his dark journey to find God, in this volume collecting PREACHER #1-12, plus pinups from PREACHER #50 and #66. House on Fire by Matthew Battaglia

Image
Description Is she sick, or is it the world itself? HOUSE ON FIRE, the debut graphic novel by writer/artist Matt Battaglia, teases out the difference in a personal-political cruise through a fallen world, where fear is rational and obedience your only refuge. Battaglia depicts the near-future landscape of House on Fire with wild two-color brushwork reminiscent of the great Paul Pope, and a minimalist writing style that evokes and questions rather than lectures. House on Fire A special thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for this book in exchange for a feedback review. All statements and opinions stated in this piece are my own and are based on my reading of this graphic novel. First a commendation to the creators of this extremely dark take on a dystopian future or is it a nearly present time.  This is a take on an arid future envisaged by many doomsday writers with climate changes and lack of control leading to shortages in access to air.  Although I may not ...
