A Wasted Hour

There are a lot of things written and spoken about the author Jeffrey Archer both about his personal life and his life as an author and everything else in between including his foray into jail as a convicted criminal and his earlier stint as an elected member of parliament. But through it all his writings based on his experiences and exposures in the form of novels and short stories have been popular. His various short story collections make for very good reading.

A Wasted hour is one such short and we have Kelly the protagonist a student who hitchhikes to save money and as an aspiring writer enjoys the life exposure and meeting new people to help her in her quest. In this short booklet she meets an old man who provides her a lift as well as talking to her over the ride as someone who had attended Stanford like her and talking books and literature. Kelly's first statement about her favorite books comes back with perfect recall as the story ends with a massive unexpected punchline.

The story is warm and the discussion friendly and encompasses lots of things about the literature, books and the great American novel.

A four star effort from the author and recommended as an extremely short read at 14 pages.
