Dark Shadows: Year One #1: Digital Exclusive Edition

by Marc Andreyko, Guiu Vilanova (Illustrator)

This is an origin story and we see the famed vampire Barnabas Collins, a fictional character featured first in the TV series of the same name - Dark Shadows in 1966 and which has had several other TV revivals over the years and was also played by Johnny Depp in the 2012 movie by his muse and frequent collaborator Tim Burton.

Barnabas Collins has also featured in an epic crossover with another legendary vampire Vampirella in Dark Shadows Vampirella a comic produced by Dynamite Entertainment and also written by Marc Andreyko, the author of this edition.

This graphic novel or comic book features Barnabas Collins and his family before he got entangled with Angelique a witch. We see Barnabas as a family man who is engaged to be married and is looking forward to a family life.

A chance encounter with Angelique changes the entire course of his history and that is the basis of this story.

The retelling of the classic Dark Shadows story is filled with beautiful art work and like most horror books features a dark theme with plays with shadows and light. The expressions of the characters are brought forth in the art and in most cases share a resemblance to the original characters from the series.

This is a story that moves quickly.

A good story. Recommended.
