James Bond: M by Declan Shalvey

James Bond: M (James Bond: Case Files #4) by Declan Shalvey

James Bond’s superior, code-named M, scrambles MI6’s secret agents across the globe. Sometimes, he knowingly sends them to their deaths, for the greater good. But a traumatic event from M’s early days in the field returns to haunt him, forcing M to return to the scene of a crime…HIS crime.

Dynamite Comics the comic book print house that creates new material of established media. Over the last 6-7 years since they began to publish the comic book series featuring James Bond in a contemporary setting, the franchise has spanned several original stories and several spinoffs featuring notable Bond characters.
The M in these Bond stories is a different character from the one that we have been seeing in the movies. A career soldier who is not afraid in taking strong decisions.

This short story is a compelling side story about M and is a standalone with no presence of Bond. Every bureaucrat has skeletons in their closets and M seems no exception except here we see him being forced into actions that he does not condone.
The story seems smooth for most parts except the end which seems too vindictive and a trifle irresponsible.
Although it is keeping in line with the other Bond books in this universe, the stories being more grisly and the violence very spot on and ruthless.
This was for me a middle of the path book and hence the 2 stars.
As an extremely short story - 10 to 15 minute read the book is fine.
