Archie Jumbo Comics as the name suggests is focused on the Riverdale gang that a lot of us love. The book is filled with new stories and variations of some old gags. The opening story as featured in the back cover is a great storyline a modern take on the traditional.

This book like all the books in the Archie's universe contains lovable characters who have just stepped into their 9th decade and I am almost halfway there in my 4th decade of reading these books accounting for 3 quarters my age (this statement made me feel old). OK we have in this book Archie, Reggie, Veronica, Betty and Jughead along with Pop, Dilton, Clayton, Coach Kleat, Midge, Moose, Weatherbee and Flutesnot, the last two in an intriguing short romp of their own. And Hiram, how did I miss this extremely important character, Mr. Lodge.
The book had several ROFL moments and some healthy/unhealthy competitive rivalry between schools (no spoiler but maybe I said too much). Like most Archie comics this was a page turner and is a wonderful negator of STRESS when things are going for or against you. You will get lost in the romps and they are so short that you need not invest much time, so between work episodes or slides also work.
What works here is the smooth transition in the tales with short 3/4 piece Hors d'oeuvre in between.
The book is aimed at adolescents especially teens and above and the young at heart.
5 on five for me.


This is family reading at its finest. :-)
I recommend this book to everyone.

Manga Classics: The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas - Review on NetGalley

An auspicious start as this is the first book that I am reviewing on NetGalley after procrastinating for nearly a month. A 178 year old blockbuster Alexander Dumas classic full length novel converted to manga format seemed incredible and when I saw this available here in NetGalley, I just had to have a peek. Not just a peek, have had a full read and am thankful to NetGalley for making this book available for review.  The Count of Monte Cristo has been one of my favorite classics and I have had the privilege of reading it in many formats, the classic novel, short condensed edition, comics, illustrated editions, meant for adults, teens and schools.
